Originating in the early 1980s in Kingston Jamaica, reggae dancehall music emerged out of a response to the dominance of conscious reggae. Initially, it was characterized by deejays toasting to dub reggae, soon changing into a distinct combination of electronic sounds, driving beats, and frequently raw lyrics. This sound saw further shifts with the
